I am a freelance editor and writing coach with a PhD in Art History (Northwestern University) and over 25 years experience working with academics, writers, artists, museums and publishers on a wide range of scholarly, creative and hybrid texts. I am also a university professor.
As an editor and coach, I work closely with my clients to achieve a fine integration of the technical, conceptual and artistic aspects of their work. I offer expert analyses of academic and creative manuscripts, and concrete, detailed suggestions for taking them to the next level of accomplishment.
As a scholar with broad interdisciplinary knowledge, I understand the complexity of thought in academic argumentation and the importance of nuance in cultural communication; I am particularly sensitive to the unique challenges of giving voice to non-verbal forms of creative practice.
I have worked with authors at all levels of English writing experience, from award-winning novelists and distinguished academics to novices and non-native speakers. I protect the confidentiality of all my clients.
Alongside my editing and coaching work, I teach courses in academic and creative writing, modern and contemporary art and theory, art and philosophy, art and science, architecture, the decorative arts, and museology in undergraduate and graduate university programs (Concordia University, Montreal). I am well versed in methods of textual, visual and historical analysis, critical theory, continental philosophy and feminist and queer theory; I read French fluently.
